Sometimes it can give us a different perspective – changing how we perceive the character’s reaction or author’s commentary. If you’re doing a close read or rowing a book (reading the same book several days in a row) it’s nice to hear another voice reading. It’s important for kids to hear a variety of readers, cadences, pace, and tone. I still use online read alouds frequently in our homeschool. It was a calm time to take a deep breath, relax, and listen to someone (other than me) tell them a story.
